Privacy

Privacy policy

Effective August 6, 2026. This initial policy describes the current YouMeUp soft-launch experience and should receive legal review as the service expands.

Information you provide

You may provide account information, personal place lists, favorites, places marked “Been here,” feedback, suggested place details, and contact information submitted with a report.

How we use information

We use information to operate personal features, improve listings, review reports, prevent abuse, communicate about submissions, and understand how the service is used.

Personal place activity

Your Want to visit, Favorites, Been here, and custom lists are private account features during the soft launch. We will not publish individual activity without a clear user-controlled sharing setting.

Photos and children’s privacy

Do not submit identifying photos of unrelated children without appropriate permission. During the soft launch, public photo uploads remain disabled. Staff-uploaded photos are kept private until reviewed; staff may manually blur faces, license plates, name tags, or other identifying details before creating a public derivative. YouMeUp may also screen submissions for unsafe content and may reject, crop, blur, unpublish, or remove photos.

Cookies and browser storage

YouMeUp currently uses essential application cookies, including Django session and CSRF-protection cookies, to support login, account features, and security. YouMeUp application code currently does not intentionally use advertising cookies, behavioral advertising pixels, or browser-storage tracking through localStorage or sessionStorage. Before introducing non-essential analytics, advertising, or similar tracking, we will review the applicable notice, consent, and opt-out requirements and update this policy.

Location information

The current public site does not require continuous device location. Future on-site features, such as check-ins, will require separate permission, clear proximity rules, and additional privacy controls before launch.

Data retention and removal

We retain information while needed to provide the service, preserve moderation history, comply with legal obligations, and prevent abuse. You may request correction or removal through the feedback form.

Contact

Use Photo or privacy concern for a privacy request or photo-removal concern.

Feedback screenshots

If you attach screenshots to a feedback report, YouMeUp stores them privately for staff review. They are not published as part of the public listing. Avoid including sensitive information that is not needed to explain the issue.
